Nathan Greyson Refuses To Make Weight For Cage Warriors 99, Booted From Promotion
This Saturday’s Cage Warriors 99 card was supposed to be headlined by a flyweight title fight between champion Nathan Greyson and challenger Blaine O’Driscoll.
The flyweight champion has now refused to make weight for the bout after reports started surfacing that the UFC may eliminate their flyweight division.
“I hope nobody takes this the wrong way, but it’s not like I’m getting paid at Cage Warriors. There’s no real incentive to make that [flyweight] limit. I need incentive, seriously. When I told my dad about [the UFC cutting flyweights], I was nearly in tears,” said Greyson on the Eurobash podcast. “I’m not going to lie, it’s a bit sticky. My Dad told me, ‘Don’t fight, because the money Cage Warriors are paying you ain’t enough’. It’s the weight cutting; everyone knows that weight cutting is very dangerous.”
Cage Warriors President Graham Boylan has since announced that a bout between James Webb and Jason Radcliffe will headline the event.
Boylan also stated that he got word from Greyson’s team five days before the event that the champion wasn’t competing and the end result is that Greyson is no longer in the promotion.
“100 percent (Greyson not fighting in Cage Warriors anymore),” he said to MMA Fighting. “He will never step foot in Cage Warriors again.”
Cage Warriors 99 takes place on Saturday, November 17 from the Colchester Carter Hall in Essex, England with James Webb and Jason Radcliffe headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on UFC Fight Pass.
