Dillian Whyte: Oleksandr Usyk Will Struggle At Heavyweight

Dillian Whyte isn’t impressed with Oleksandr Usyk‘s prospect at competing as a heavyweight.

Whyte spoke with Sky Sports after Usyk’s eighth-round knock out win over Tony Bellew to retain the undisputed WBA, WBO, WBC and IBF cruiserweight titles. After Usyk won the fight, he insinuated that he would be moving up in weight, looking for a potential fight against unified champion Anthony Joshua.

The current WBC Silver heavyweight champion believes that Usyk will struggle with the bigger fighters competing at the sport’s heaviest division. Whyte said he would be open to fighting the current 200-pound world champion and believes he will have a better gameplan against Usyk than Bellew.

“Usyk will struggle at heavyweight. Heavyweights are bigger and stronger guys and they will manhandle him. If I fought him I wouldn’t do what Tony Bellew was doing, I’d be charging at him all around the ring,” Whyte said.

Whyte won’t get a shot at Usyk anytime soon as the heavyweight contender is slated for a big rematch against Dereck Chisora on December 22 at the O2 Arena in London. With a win over Chisora, Whyte could potentially set himself up for another rematch, albeit much bigger, against Anthony Joshua next year if Joshua does not fight WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder next. Joshua is scheduled to defend his WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles at Wembley Stadium in April 2019.
