WWE Visited By Olympian
Canadian Olympian Korey Jarvis met with WWE officials including Triple H.
Jarvis is coming off of an 1-2 run at the 2016 Summer Olympics with his two losses happening in matches with eventual medalist. His performance caught the eye of WWE and Jarvis told Guelph Today about their initial communication.
“They contacted me after the Olympics and they asked me to come down and check it out, have no strings attached but basically come down for a tryout. It’s pretty interesting and really different for me. There’s a lot of acting and a lot of different techniques” said Jarvis.
The WWE gave the Olympian a thorough experience in Orlando, Florida.
“It wasn’t like anything serious. It was just training with the team and doing some basic classes, working with them on strength and conditioning and checking out the facility. They have a bunch of live tapings they’re doing this week” said Jarvis
Jarvis tweeted a picture of him with Triple H and the caption “Extremly(sic) grateful for the invite & opportunity to try-out for the (WWE) this week!” But Jarvis remains focused on amateur wrestling.
“I finished a lot higher than I was ranked and I wrestled well. I had a really tough draw, but I went out there and put it on the line. I wrestled the best in the world and I had some close matches. It would’ve been awesome to get a medal, but it didn’t happen. I’m excited for the next four years to see what happens” said Jarvis.
Jarvis plans on training amateur wrestling full-time until the next summer Olympics. He has support from the Canadian government and Canada Wrestling, but also will be looking for sponsors to fund his training.
NXT currently has Olympian Adrian Jaoude, who competed at the 2016 Olympics while on the NXT roster. WWE Superstar and Olympian Chad Gable came through the WWE developmental system at the age of thirty. Jarvis will be thirty three years old after the next Olympics.
