Conor McGregor Holds One Championship Responsible For The Demise Of The UFC Flyweight Division
It has been rumored that the UFC Flyweight Division will eventually be eliminated now that former UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson has been traded to One Championship in exchange for Ben Askren.
Former two division UFC champion Conor McGregor has never competed at flyweight, but he does hold One Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong responsible for the division and would like the promotion to sign the soon to be released flyweights.
McGregor made his feelings known via Twitter:
You must now take all the 125lbers that have been let go, Chatri.
You talk all of this Martial Art and respect talk, yet your greed has directly cost more than half a fighting division it’s chance to earn income for their family.
Have respect @YODCHATRI.
Sign the division.— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) November 8, 2018
One Championship has added several big names to the roster in recent weeks, including former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Miesha Tate, former UFC Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez and the aforementioned Demetrious Johnson.
There has been no word yet from Sityodtong or anybody else from the promotion as to whether or not they plan to add any of the potentially soon to be released flyweights to their roster.
