AJ Styles: “I Love Japan But It Was Time To Come Home And I Gave WWE A Call”
AJ Styles opens up about coming to WWE.
This Wednesday will be a historic day for “The Phenomenal One” AJ Styles. Within his two years as a part of WWE, Styles has captured the United States Championship twice and is a two-time and current WWE Champion. Styles won the WWE Title for a second time on November 7th of 2017 when he defeated Jinder Mahal in Manchester, England.
Next week WWE is touring England and if AJ makes it through SmackDown still WWE Champion, he will have officially held the title for a full year. AJ has made it clear during interviews and other media platforms that prior to coming to WWE he came to terms with his thoughts that he would never be a part of the company let alone hold their top championship for a full year. During an interview with the ‘Aberdeen Evening Express’, Styles opened up about coming to the sports-entertainment company and how the timing was just right.
“I just assumed me and the WWE just weren’t a fit and we would never work together. I learned to live with it and I just assumed they didn’t need an AJ Styles. Thankfully I was wrong. It took me a while, but when I got here the timing was perfect.” AJ said. “Timing is everything. I was in Japan and wanted to get home. I love Japan but it was time to come home and I gave WWE a call and said maybe we should talk. I didn’t really know where it would go but Triple H and I had a good conversation and the ball started rolling – and here we are.”
