Dillian Whyte To Face Dereck Chisora In December 22 Rematch

The British heavyweight rematch between Dillian Whyte and Dereck Chisora is officially set for the end of the year.

A press conference was held in the United Kingdom to announce Chisora as Whyte’s opponent. The fight will take place at the O2 Arena in London on December 22.

The two will face off for the first time the end of 2016 when they fought on a loaded Matchroom Boxing card in Manchester. Whyte emerged victorious with a close split decision, winning with two judges awarding Whyte the win 115-113 and 115-114 while a third judge had Chisora winning 115-114.

While there are no titles on the line, Whyte, the top-ranked heavyweight in the WBC and WBO rankings. stands to lose a lot with a loss to Chisora in the second rematch. As unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has his next fight scheduled for April 13, 2019 at Wembley Stadium, the matter of his opponent is still in question. Joshua is holding out hope that WBC champion Deontay Wilder ends up being his opponent, but if that fight doesn’t happen next April, then Whyte would be the next choice to be Joshua’s rival for 2019.

Joshua and Whyte previously met back in 2015, but no world titles were at stake, only the WBC International, Commonwealth and BBBofC British heavyweight titles. The fight was action-packed, but Joshua eventually won with a stoppage in the seventh round.

The press conference for the rematch can be seen in the video above.
