Daniel Cormier Wants The UFC To Book Khabib Nurmagomedov Against GSP

Two division UFC champion Daniel Cormier is defending the heavyweight crown against Derrick Lewis this Saturday Night at UFC 230.

If DC can play dream fight booker for the UFC, a bout he would make would see UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov take on former two division UFC champion Georges St. Pierre.

“Khabib has a number of options,” Cormier said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show. “Tony is great. I don’t dislike Tony Ferguson at all. I think he’s a phenomenal fighter, this dude’s a beast. I think he’s the tougher matchup for Khabib but I say do Khabib vs. Georges St-Pierre. That’s the fight. It’s big.”

GSP has expressed interest in fighting Nurmagomedov in the past, but UFC President Dana White said that he must fight a contender before fighting the champion.

Cormier doesn’t care if the lightweight strap is defended or not, its just a fight that he wants to see.

“Matchup wise, Tony, tough, GSP, super tough; but the history and the matchup of a GSP fight, at 165. . .” Cormier said. “It doesn’t have to be for a belt. This is a big enough fight that it doesn’t have to be for a title. Make it a catchweight fight. When you’ve got names like Khabib and Georges, it can be for anything. Let those guys fight.”

UFC 230 takes place on Saturday, November 3 from Madison Square Garden in new York, New York with Daniel Cormier and Derrick Lewis headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
