Lana Credits The “Give Divas A Chance” Hashtag For Kick-Starting The Women’s Revolution In WWE
Lana is ready for Sunday.
It has been a long journey for the female superstars of WWE and that journey will pay off in the form of a PPV this Sunday entitled WWE ‘Evolution’ which is the company’s first all-women’s PPV. There are currently six matches set for the show including the finals of the Mae Young Classic tournament between Toni Storm and Io Shirai; Ronda Rousey defending the RAW Women’s Championship against Nikki Bella, and Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch coming to blows in the second Last Woman Standing match in WWE history all for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
‘Evolution’ is being held at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York and the ladies are doing press all over the city and state to promote the show. Lana, who will be in the ‘Evolution’ Battle Royal recently spoke with CBS Local Sports and gave her take on how this revolution began.
“They started to become more interested in our matches and our stories because they were interested in our lives and invested in our lives.” Lana explained. “Total Divas started in 2013 and about two years later, in 2015, #GiveDivasAChance trended for three days and it was because it was a thirty-second match. That led into catapulting and really bringing awareness to WWE officials to realize that our fan base is ready, the world is ready to see longer matches and stronger stories and character development.”
Lana also spoke about how she is grateful for the opportunity to be a part of an historic event such as ‘Evolution’. She closed her statement by saying that it is a great time to be a woman.
“I’m really grateful to be a part of the first-ever women’s pay-per-view. It’s incredible how far we’ve come,” said Lana. “The women have come so far in the last four years since I debuted. I remember we had three minute matches and now we’re having our own pay-per-view, all women. We’re going to continue breaking down doors and barriers. It’s a great time to be a woman.”
