Chris Algieri Set For First Boxing Fight Since April 2016
Former world champion Chris Algieri is ready to return to the ring for the first time in more than two years.
A press release from Star Boxing stated that Algieri will be fighting on an upcoming boxing card at The Paramount Theatre in Huntington, New York. The fight is scheduled to take place on November 30. In the press release, Algieri stated his excitement at returning to boxing and getting a chance to fight once more.
“I can’t express how happy I am to be back. It has been a long time coming and it is the perfect time to step back into the sport. I am looking forward to returning to the junior welterweight division and win another world title. There are a lot of good fights for me down the line and I can’t wait to be back in the mix on the world stage,” Algieri said.
Algieri has fought the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Amir Khan and Errol Spence Jr. throughout his career. Algieri’s career-defining win was a split decision win over Ruslan Provodnikov in 2014 to win the WBO junior welterweight title.
The 34-year-old Algieri moved up in weight later that year to fight Pacquiao for the WBO welterweight title, but Algieri lost a unanimous decision when the two fought. Algieri last fought in April 2016 when he suffered a TKO loss to Spence. No opponent for Algieri’s return fight has been named, but information on card and Algieri’s opponent will be revealed at a later date.
