UFC Denver’s Maia Stevenson Planned To Halt The Maycee Barber Hype Train Before Injury

Maia Stevenson was set to be back in action at UFC Fight Night Denver, hoping to end the undefeated streak of Maycee Barber.

The fighter hasn’t been in action in almost a year, but it was a few injuries that kept her out of the Octagon — including one that forced her out of this weekend’s show.

“I was nursing a couple of injuries and things like that, I definitely wanted to come into this camp healthy. Its a little bit later than I wanted to, I wanted to fight maybe closer towards the beginning of summer. I’m just happy to be on a card right now,” says Stevenson in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.

Stevenson still looks for her first win in the UFC as the fighter’s promotional debut at UFC Fight Night Belem was a loss to Polyana Viana. A second loss in the promotion could see Stevenson’s time in the UFC come to a close, but that is something she isn’t worried about.

“I obviously went over it with my management and my coaching staff, we went over the pros and cons of taking the fight. Especially at elevation and things like that, sometimes I am brought in for the tough fights. Its just a challenge for me and if I can find a way to do these fights, then maybe…I belong here still and I’m not worried about it,” says Stevenson.

UFC Fight Night Denver takes place on Saturday, November 10 from the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado with Frankie Edgar and Chan Sung Jung headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Fox Sports 1. Stevenson has been replaced by Hannah Cifers against Maycee Barber.
