U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal Gives His Take On If WWE Should Cancel ‘Crown Jewel’ Or Not
A U.S. Senator chimes in.
World Wrestling Entertainment has all eyes on them and not in a positive way. WWE is hosting their ‘Crown Jewel’ event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on November 2nd but in wake of the recent news that Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi was brought to Saudi Arabia on business matters and disappeared and has reportedly been killed, the negative press and attention has been rolling in for the sports-entertainment company.
Wrestlers, fans and politicians galore have been chiming in on the situation and offering their thoughts on what the WWE should do going forward. The company released a brief statement regarding the situation and noted that they are monitoring things. The latest individual to share their thoughts on if the WWE should cancel the trip to Saudi Arabia in three weeks or not was Senator Richard Blumenthal. Blumenthal recently joined WCBS Newsradio 880 and offered his thoughts on if WWE should put the red light to their second Saudi Arabia trip of 2018.
“All major private interest should review and re-look their relationship with the Saudi Kingdom in light of its continuing pattern of abusive civil rights and civil liberties, contempt for the rule of law and bombing in Yemen -using the United States’ military equipment and possibly intelligence, and so the private interest should review but so should the United States government.” He continued, “I would hope that WWE will recognize on its own, a conscience and conviction if there is proof that Saudi officials approved and ordered this kind of killing and I would lean first on the United States government to do its duty so that it can lead private interest like WWE and, the first place to look is to is the United States government.” He concluded.
