UFC Fighter Ryan Janes Retires
UFC fighter Ryan Janes has decided to end his near ten year professional MMA career and the competitor earned a professional MMA record of 10-3-0 during that time.
A now retired Janes decided it wasn’t worth fighting anymore, especially with things going so with with his job outside of the UFC.
“I had to make the decision that it wasn’t worth it for me to [fight again],” Janes said to Bloody Elbow. “As nice as that extra money is, my career is more important, so I had to step away.”
Janes went 2-2-0 during his time in the UFC, with those wins coming over the duo of Keith Berish and Andrew Sanchez.
One huge factor behind Janes decision to retire was the potential life altering damage he could suffer with a prolonged MMA career.
“It can’t not be a part of it,” he said. “My girlfriend was like, ‘I don’t want you to have dementia when you’re 50 years old and not be able to be there for your kid.’ I know for a fact that I do have some effects from getting punched all the time. You can tell. You just kind of lose words every now and then. I’m saying something, then I’m like, ‘Ah, what word was I thinking of?’”
The fighter’s biggest success may have come outside of the UFC, where he defeated Brandon Kornberger by fourth round submission to win the Battlefield Fight League Middleweight Title.
