Rocky Fielding: “I’m Confident I Can Win” Against Canelo Alvarez
While Rocky Fielding is coming into his December 15 WBA “regular” super middleweight title defense against Canelo Alvarez as a big underdog, Fielding remains confident he will come out on top.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Fielding stated that although he faces a tough task against Alvarez, the super middleweight champion believes he has what it takes to come out on top.
“Yes, it’s Canelo and yes, it’s at Madison Square Garden but I wouldn’t take it if I didn’t think I could beat him. I am going there confident of winning it and I’m confident I can win it, I’m not going there just because it’s Canelo at Madison Square Garden. I am going there to defend my title,” Fielding said.
Fielding does have the benefit of being a super middleweight for far longer than Alvarez, who has fought just once above 160 pounds throughout his pro career, but that’s not stopping the oddsmakers from making Alvarez a big favorite. According to PaddyPower.com, Alvarez is a 1/16 favorite while Fielding’s odds of coming out on top are just 8/1.
The fight is scheduled to headline a boxing card at Madison Square Garden, but as of this writing, no U.S. broadcast has yet to be announced. Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn recently said the DAZN streaming platform, figured to be the favorite to show the fight in the United States, has not been selected yet to carry such a big event, but that it is in the running as does other networks and that it would be Golden Boy Promotions’ final say in the matter.
