Anthony Yarde To Fight On October 20 In Essex

Anthony Yarde is ready to return to the ring and continue his quest towards fighting for a light heavyweight world title some day.

Promoter Frank Warren announced that Yarde will headline a boxing card at the Brentwood Centre in Essex, England on October 20. Yarde will defend his WBO Intercontinental light heavyweight title against Walter Gabriel Sequeira.

Yarde has made a rapid ascent to the upper echelon of contenders at 175 pounds since making his pro debut in 2015. Having won the WBO Intercontinental and WBO European titles already, Yarde has emerged as the No. 2 contender in the WBO rankings and is also ranked in the top 5 by the IBF.

Sequeira is no stranger to fighting European fighters. The 31-year-old Sequeira, who is the current Argentine national light heavyweight champion, lost to Avni Yildirim in 2016 with the WBC International Silver light heavyweight title on the line.

Two other fights were also announced for the October 20 card. The first is a bout between Gary Corcoran and Johnny Garton for the vacant British welterweight title. The title was previously held by Bradley Skeete but Skeete vacated it after not defending the title since July 2017. Corcoran will be competing for his first title since unsuccessfully challenging for the WBO welterweight title last December when he lost to Jeff Horn in Australia.

The other fight made in the initial announcement is a super middleweight bout between unbeaten prospects Umar Sadiq and Zak Chelli, both of whom made their pro debuts back in 2017.
