Brandon Figueroa Knocks Out Oscar Escandon On PBC On FS1 Main Event

After a shift in the main event picture for the September 30, Brandon Figueroa scored one of the biggest wins of his career.

In the main event of the September 30 PBC on FS1 card, Figueroa knocked out former world title challenger Oscar Escandon in the 10th round of their bout. Figueroa got the win with a right uppercut that landed on Escandon’s chin about midway through the round which sent Escandon to the canvas and he was not able to get up by the referee’s 10-count.

The fight between Figueroa and Escandon was not the original main event for the card. The card was scheduled to have a televised main event involving Victor Ortiz and John Molina Jr., but after Ortiz was hit with multiple sexual assault charges, PBC took Ortiz out of the fight and placed Figueroa and Escandon on that open slot.

The co-main event of the card saw British heavyweight prospect Joe Joyce make his United States pro debut. Joyce dominated Iago Kiladse, knocking Kiladse down in the second round thanks to a series of right hands, then in the third round. The fight ended in the fifth round when Joyce landed a hard left hook to Kiladse’s body, knocking him out of the fight.

Other fights on the undercard saw undefeated prospect Joey Spencer knock out Cory Macon late in the first round of their fight. In another first-round demolition on the undercard, heavyweight prospect Efe Ajagba took care of business against Nick Jones, taking the Oklahoma native down with under 40 seconds remaining in the fight.

Former two-time IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale fought on the untelevised portion of the card, which took place at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California. In his first fight since vacating his IBF title earlier this year, DeGale knocked out Fidel Monterrosa in the third round.
