WBSS Announces Ivan Baranchyk vs. Anthony Yigit For October 27

The second World Boxing Super Series junior welterweight fight for October 27 has been officially announced.

First reported by Mike Coppinger a little more than a week prior, the WBSS announced that the October 27 boxing card in New Orleans will have Ivan Baranchyk face off against Anthony Yigit for the vacant IBF 140-pound title. That fight will also be a quarterfinal fight for the global tournament, whose second season is set to start in early October.

The two boxers are going to fight for the title previously held by Mikey Garcia. When Garcia won the IBF title in March against Sergey Lipinets, he was given an option to either defend his new world title against Baranchyk, the mandatory challenger to the title, or go back to lightweight where is the WBC champion.

When Garcia vacated the belt, the IBF then ordered Baranchyk to face Yigit, the EBU European champion since 2017. Baranchyk is coming off a TKO win over former lightweight and junior welterweight title challenger Petr Petrov.

The October 27 card will be headlined by a second WBSS 140-pound quarterfinal fight. Former interim WBC champion Regis Prograis returns to New Orleans to face off against former lightweight champion Terry Flanagan with the WBC Diamond title on the line.

Although both fights are quarterfinal matches in the same weight classes, because of the way the brackets are structured, the only time the winners of those fights can meet is in the finals, set for the summer of 2019. The New Orleans card, as well as every World Boxing Super Series fight this season, will be streamed in both Canada and the United States on the DAZN platform.
