KUSHIDA Advances To The Finals Of The IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship Tournament

KUSHIDA is on the hunt.

In July at the 2018 NJPW G1 Special, Hiromu Takahashi put his IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship on the line against Dragon Lee in a highly anticipated bout and that match was anticipated because in their past battles they took one another to the limit. They did just that in their match at the G1 Special but unfortunately during the match, Dragon Lee caught Hiromu in a “Phoenix Plex” maneuver where Hiromu was trapped in an inverted “alley-oop” position and was tossed over Dragon Lee’s shoulders. Hiromu landed directly on his neck and immediately grabbed for it after the move.

Hiromu powered through and was able to finish the match and picked up the victory but it was soon revealed that his neck injury was far worse then one would hope. Hiromu was eventually stripped of the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship and a tournament consisting of: KUSHIDA, Marty Scurll, Will Ospreay and BUSHI was initiated to crown a new champion. Will Ospreay versus Marty Scurll will take place next Sunday at ‘Fighting Spirit Unleashed’ at the ‘Walter Pyramid’ in Long Beach and KUSHIDA versus BUSHI went down today at ‘Destruction’ in Kobe. The end of the match saw KUSHIDA emerge victorious and now KUSHIDA awaits the winner of Will Ospreay versus Marty Scurll and the winner of that bout will meet KUSHIDA on October 8th at ‘King Of Pro Wrestling’.
