Blackzilians Founder Glenn Robinson Passes Away
Glenn Robinson, who is best known as the founder of the Blackzilian, has passed away this past Wednesday after allegedly suffering a heart attack.
The passing of Robinson was first reported by Ryan Loco on Twitter, as Loco had previously served as the official photographer for the fight team.
Jen Wenk once served as Robinson’s public relations agent and she issued the following statement on his passing to MMA Junkie:
“I feel awful for his family and daughters and wife. He was a wonderful person.”
Robinson got involved with MMA during his time as the founder of Iron Bridge Tools, where Robinson was introduced to UFC veteran Jorge Santiago. That meeting would be the spark for what would become one of the most dominant teams in MMA, with that team being the Blackzilians.
At different points in the team heyday, such notable fighters as Rashad Evans, Anthony Johnson, Thiago Silva, Vitor Belfort, Cezar Ferreira, Eddie Alvarez, Matt Mitrione, Michael Johnson, Jorge Santiago, Siyar Bahadurzada, Gesias Cavalcante, Miguel Torres, Abel Trujillo, Ryan LaFlare, Gilbert Burns, Volkan Oezdemir, Alistair Overeem, Stefan Struve and a host of others all fought under the Blackzilians banner.
Perhaps the biggest exposure the team got was when Robinson and the Blackzilians competed against Dan Lambert and American Top Team on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 21. ATT would win the head to head match ups 7-5, but that victory did little to settle the rivalry between both teams.
Once the core of the Blackzilians left to train elsewhere, a now deceased Robinson primarily left MMA behind, with the exception of helping a few fighters who had stayed loyal to him throughout the years.
