Report: Frankie Edgar/Jeremy Stephens Targeted For UFC 205

A pretty big featherweight division fight has been rumored for UFC 205 as former UFC Featherweight Champion Frankie Edgar takes on Jeremy Stephens.

The initial report for the bout came from Brazil’s Combate site, Edgar would be competing for the first time since losing an interim featherweight title fight to Jose Aldo at UFC 200. Stephens is coming off what can arguably be considered the biggest win of his career, as he defeated former bantamweight champion Renan Barao at UFC Fight Night 88.

Stephens would also be making his first UFC pay-per-view appearance in nearly a year, as he last pay-per-view appearance was a loss to Max Holloway at UFC 194.

Edgar has won five of his last six heading into this fight, with those wins coming over Charles Oliveira, BJ Penn, Chad Mendes, Cub Swanson and Urijah Faber. Edgar will be competing in his second straight pay-per-view for the UFC, he has not fought in two straight pay-per-views in over three years.

This is almost a home field fight for Edgar, who hails from Toms River, NJ and that area is only an hour or so away from Madison Square Garden.

Edgar/Stephens would join a fight card that includes Rashad Evans vs. Tim Kennedy, Chris Weidman vs. Yoel Romero and Donald Cerrone vs. Kelvin Gastelum amongst other fights.

UFC 205 takes place on November 12th from Madison Square Garden in New York, New York with no headliners announced as of this writing.
