UFC 228 Prelim TV Ratings Are In, Does Horrible Numbers

This past weekend, MMA fans were treated to a four fight preliminary card ahead of UFC 228, but the TV rating weren’t very good for those bouts.

The four fight preliminary card that aired live on FX brought in a average TV rating of 560,000 viewers according to MMA Fighting, making it the lowest ranked PPV preliminary card to air on free TV in 2018.

It was the featured preliminary card bout between Tatiana Suarez and former UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Carla Esparza that brought in the most viewers, with 683,000 fans checking out that encounter.

Other preliminary card bouts saw Aljamain Sterling defeat Cody Stamann, Geoff Neal defeat Frank Camacho and Darren Stewart defeat Charles Byrd.

There was some big time competition in the form of NCAA Football on Saturday Night, with Clemson vs. Texas A&M, Penn State vs. Pittsburgh and Stanford vs. USC all airing opposite of the UFC offering.

A pre-fight show also aired on FX and that brought in 271,000 viewers, while a post-fight show on Fox Sports 1 brought in 64,000 viewers.

Up next for the UFC is UFC Fight Night Moscow, which no ratings will get released for because the entire event will stream live on UFC Fight Pass.
