Becky Lynch Credits Finn Balor For Her Success
Becky Lynch is the WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion because of her hard work. But she says a fellow Irishmen helped her get there.
Lynch was interviewed by Newstalk, an Irish radio station, and mentioned how important Finn Balor has been to her wrestling career.
“[He] is the reason I’m here. He’s a great trainer. He’s had such an impact on my life. I had given up wrestling for seven years and he convinced me to go back. He had a huge impact,” Lynch said.
Balor, Lynch and former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus all hail from Ireland. Lynch thinks “The Fighting Irish” mentality has helped each of them perform well, with all three winning titles early in their time with the company.
“The thing for Irish wrestlers is, that it’s so new to us. It’s so new. Finn Balor opened up the first [wrestling] school 14-years ago. I was there on day one. We’re not going back too far, and to already have so many champions, from such a small island is unbelievable. Hopefully more Irish wrestlers can join us in the WWE. The possibilities are endless.”
With the rigorous WWE touring schedule, the 29 year old Dublin, Ireland native doesn’t get to go back to her home country often. But when WWE does return, she hopes to still be champion.
“The last time I was there, I fought for the title, but again, it eluded me. It would be great to go back and hold [the belt] up. The support I got the last time, was incomparable. The Irish fans are the best in the world. I just need to keep it on my waist until then.”
