Eddie Hearn Discusses Potential Fights Between Manny Pacquiao, Amir Khan And Kell Brook
Should Amir Khan emerge victorious after his September 8 fight against Samuel Vargas, he would be on the verge of a big money fight against Manny Pacquiao, but the question is which Matchroom fighter will get that fight.
Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn spoke to Sky Sports in regards to Khan’s future. When Khan first signed with Hearn earlier this year, the understanding was that Khan would finally get a chance to have his long-anticipated grudge match against fellow Matchroom fighter Kell Brook.
But in the course of the past few months, things have changed that could put a stop to those plans. Not only did Brook move up in weight to 154 pounds after losing his IBF welterweight title against Kell Brook, but Manny Pacquiao became a welterweight champion with a knockout victory over Lucas Matthysse. Not only could Khan have a shot at Manny Pacquiao, a fight that was previously explored in 2017 before it got shut down.
Hearn admitted that he hopes a fight between Pacquiao and Khan could be made as Pacquiao is a promotional free agent. But the British promoter understands that if Khan demands too much money for a fight such as this, then the alternative would be for Pacquiao to fight Brook. In order for Brook to get that fight, however, he would have to start training and move back down to welterweight.
“I met with Pacquiao’s people last week as well, and if Khan is too expensive for Pacquiao, because Pacquiao is very expensive, Pacquiao could fight Brook. But Brook is going to have to be at 147[lbs] to fight either of those two. He has to start now,” Hearn said.
The fight between Khan and Vargas headlines a Matchroom Boxing card in Birmingham, England and boxing fans can see the fight in the United States on the DAZN Facebook and Twitter pages.
