Hiroshi Tanahashi Announced For ROH Death Before Dishonor TV Tapings

Hiroshi Tanahashi is heading stateside.

ROH announced that the G1 Climax 28 winner will be part of Death Before Dishonor TV taping on Sept. 29. You can read the full release below.

Tanahashi has held the IWGP Heavyweight Title a record seven times and has been one of New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s top stars for nearly 20 years. As his performance in the G1 Climax tournament this summer showed, the veteran remains one of the best competitors in the world.

Tanahashi went 7-1-1 in the G1 Climax, defeating Kota Ibushi in the finals to win the prestigious tournament for the third time. With the victory, Tanahashi put himself in the driver’s seat for a shot at the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 13 on Jan. 4 at the Tokyo Dome. It would be the 10th time that Tanahashi has wrestled in the main event on NJPW’s biggest show of the year.

He has competed in ROH a number of times over the past four years, with his most recent appearances occurring during the Honor United UK tour in May. Tanahashi’s last appearance in an ROH ring in the U.S. took place at Supercard of Honor in New Orleans in April, as he and Jay Lethal teamed up in a losing effort against ROH World Tag Team Champions Jay and Mark Briscoe.

It’s important to note that Tanahashi has been announced for the Saturday television tapings. On Friday, ROH will hold their annual Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view event.

Death Before Dishonor will be held at the Orleans Arena on Sept. 28. Fightful will have full coverage of the event and results from the tapings the next night.
