Victor Ortiz vs. John Molina Jr. Set For PBC Main Event On September 30

Victor Ortiz’s road back to a welterweight world title will have him face against another fighter looking to get back to title contention.

In the main event of a PBC on FS1 card from Ontario, California, Ortiz will go up against former title challenger John Molina Jr. The fight will take place on September 30 and it will be the second be the second time in three fights that Ortiz headlines a PBC on FS1 card.

After getting knocked out by Andre Berto in 2016, Ortiz took a break from the sport that took more than a year. Ortiz came back after a 15-month hiatus and knocked out Saul Corral in the fourth round of their summer 2017 fight. Ortiz then fought in the main event of a PBC on FOX card in February against former world champion Devon Alexander but the fight ended in a majority draw. Ortiz briefly held the WBC welterweight title in 2011 before losing the belt to Floyd Mayweather in controversial fashion later that year.

On the other hand, Molina has not fought since last December when he knocked out Ivan Redkach. That fight was a bounce back win after Molina unsuccessfully challenged for Terence Crawford’s unified WBC and WBO junior welterweight titles. This wasn’t the first time Molina, who sports a 30-7 pro record, has challenged for a world title as he unsuccessfully challenged for Antonio DeMarco’s WBC lightweight title in 2012.

No other fight has been announced for the televised portion of the card, taking place at the Citizens Business Bank Arena.
