Cortney Casey Talks Angela Hill Matchup, MMA Judges & Pro-Wrestling
Cortney Casey is taking a short notice fight for her next UFC appearance, facing Angela Hill on just a few weeks notice at UFC Fight Night Lincoln.
The strawweight contender feels like the battle with Hill can be a great matchup, which could lead to a bonus in the end.
“I feel like its another great (fight) stylistically, it’s a match up…a good match up. She’s a great striker, like everyone knows. She relies heavily on her muay thai and kickboxing background, my strikings good as well. She’s been susceptible on the ground, do I think its going to go there…probably not, unless she takes it there. I’m willing to stand and bang with her, I think my boxing will counter her striking as far as that goes. I think its going to be another barnburner, another great fight for the fans. That’s what I really want to do, that is go out there and put on good fights for the fans. This is one of those fights that we can definitely go out there and put on a show for them and just let them know that the strawweight division is an exciting division. Hopefully I can get a performance of the night bonus or a fight of the night bonus, its gonna be hard with (Justin) Gaethje on the card. I just want to go out there and do my job and get the W for sure,” says Casey in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.
Casey has had a tough time as of late in the UFC, with her last two fights being split decision losses.
Speaking of those tough decision losses, a hopeful Casey plans on getting a finish against Hill, instead of letting the judge’s decide the outcome of their bout.
“They aren’t kind to me and I don’t know why, I don’t even get love in my own state. I definitely think there’s going to be a finish, I really do think there’s going to be a finish for sure. We’ve been working on a lot of things, filling up the gaps a little bit. I definitely think there’s gonna be a finish, I’m thinking second round…second round finish,” says Casey.
UFC Fight Night Lincoln takes place on Saturday, August 25 from the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska with Justin Gaethje and James Vick headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
