Punk Explains Why He Didn’t Shake Mickey Gall’s Hand, UFC 203 Embedded Episode 5
The highly anticipated professional MMA debut of former professional wrestler turned professional MMA fighter CM Punk is just a few short hours away.
However, just a day before his fight at the ceremonial version of the UFC 203 Weigh-Ins, Punk created aa little bit of controversy when he refused to shake the hand of his opponent, Mickey Gall.
Punk would appear a short time later on the Fox Sports 1 UFC 203 Weigh-In Show, when he spoke to Megan Olivi, and explain his decision to not shake Gall’s hand.
“I don’t know,” Punk said. “He was stuttering. He kept repeating, ‘Oh you don’t want to shake my hand, you don’t want to shake my hand’ or something like that. I’m not here to shake anybody’s hand. I’m here to punch people in the face.”
Even with thee handshake controversy now looming over his head, Punk is still focused exclusively on his opponent. In the same interview, he says that he’s going to keep plugging along.
“It’s one thing to train, it’s another thing to train with a singular purpose and that’s what I got in Mickey Gall. I know this is a difficult sport to master. I look forward to mastering it sometime and I realize that will probably never happen, but I will get as good as I possibly can.”
Punk will be facing Mickey Gall on the main card of UFC 203, which is taking place tonight from the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio with Stipe Miocic and Alistair Overeem headlining.
