IBF Re-Issues Purse Bid For Daniel Jacobs vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko

Although a deal had been initially reached for Daniel Jacobs and Sergiy Derevyanchenko to fight for the vacant IBF middleweight title, it appears that there are still issues and so the IBF has issued another purse bid date.

The IBF has sent an email to the camps of both fighters saying that a purse bid will take place on August 9. Below is the letter sent to both sides, posted on Twitter by Steve Kim of UCN Live.

According to Kim, the issue stems from promoter Eddie Hearn not being able to find a suitable venue for the fight. It was initially believed that the fight would take place in October at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, where both Jacobs and Derevyanchenko have fought a number of times. Mike Coppinger reports that a possible new date and venue for the fight would be November 10 at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York.

The IBF stripped Gennady Golovkin of the middleweight title after refusing to fight Derevyanchenko, the mandatory challenger to the title since last year, in favor of a September 15 rematch against Canelo Alvarez. The IBF then ordered Derevyanchenko to fight Jacobs, the next highest-ranked available contender, for the vacant title.

The two were supposed to have their purse bids in early July but that got delayed for a few days to give both sides more time to strike a deal. The two sides were able to initially agree to a deal, prompting the purse bid to be canceled, though no formal announcement of the fight and a date and venue was ever made.
