Olivier Aubin-Mercier Talks Alex Hernandez, Having Bodyguards & Fighting In Calgary
Olivier Aubin-Mercier is stepping back into the Octagon at UFC On Fox 30, facing Alex Hernandez in a bout that will kick off the main card.
The TUF alum is a pretty popular fighter and must get mauled by people wherever he goes, which is why Aubin-Mercier needs some bodyguards to protect those why trying attacking the UFC star.
“This is Crazy Mike and Kung Fu Master, they follow me everywhere. They are not here to protect me, but to protect anybody who attacks me. So that’s why I hired them, those guys…nobody knows they are here,” says Aubin-Mercier in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.
Even though Aubin-Mercier is having some fun with his “bodyguards” during media day, it is serious business when he enters the Octagon to fight a top 15 ranked Hernandez.
Hernandez is ranked in the top 15 despite having only fought once in the UFC at UFC 222, but Aubin-Mercier believes that win over Beneil Dariush came over a fighter who didn’t like right on fight night.
“I think Dariush came into the fight not himself, he looked maybe liked he underestimated him. He got caught and he’s known for having a good chin, to be a really smart fighter. Trying to start a little bit slow and Hernandez was the complete opposite, I don’t think Dariush knew about that. I think that’s why he got caught,” says Aubin-Mercier.
UFC On Fox 30 takes place on Saturday, July 28 from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada with Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
