HBO’s SuperFly 3 Card Set To Take Place In September 8

Hot off the heels of the success of HBO’s first two SuperFly cards, the network announced the third iteration of the critically acclaimed boxing series.

The event will take place on September 8 at the Forum in Inglewood, California and the event will feature Juan Francisco Estrada fighting on the event for the third time. Estrada will be facing Felipe Orucuta, ranked No. 7 in the WBC rankings at super flyweight.

Estrada is the top-ranked super flyweight in the WBC rankings despite losing a close fight against WBC champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in a Fight of the Year contender on the second SuperFly card back in Febraury. Estrada became the mandatory challenger to the title when he defeated Carlos Cuadras in a title eliminator on the first-ever SuperFly card last year.

As is tradition on the SuperFly cards, there will be a super flyweight world title bout on the September 8 card: Donnie Nietes moving up in weight to fight Aston Palicte for the vacant WBO super flyweight title. The title was vacated by Naoya Inoue as he moved up in weight to fight for the WBA “regular” bantamweight title and then signing up for the World Boxing Super Series bantamweight tournament.

The third fight on the HBO card will be McWilliams Arroyo facing Kazuto Ioka. Ioka, a three-division world champion, is coming out of retirement after having not fought since April 2017. Arroyo has not fought since scoring an upset win over Cuadras in February to win the WBC Silver super flyweight title.
