Evans Dropping To Middleweight At UFC 205
After a long run in the UFC Light Heavyweight Division, which includes a run as the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Rashad Evans will be dropping twenty pounds and dropping down to the UFC Middleweight Division at UFC 205.
Evans (19-5-1) will be taking on Tim Kennedy (18-5-0) at the aforementioned UFC 205 event, its placement on the card has yet to be determined. Evans, who came to the UFC in November 2005 after defeating Brad Imes (at heavyweight) at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 2 Finale, the win earned Evans a six figure UFC contract. Evans has earned a record of 14-5-1 during his time in the UFC, but he leaves the light heavyweight division on a two fight losing streak.
Kennedy on the other hand, has not fought since a controversial loss to Yoel Romero at UFC 178 in September 2014. The loss was controversial because Romero would not leave his stool after the second round until a lot of prodding from referee John McCarthy, Romero would eventually answer the bell for round three and he would finish Kennedy with strikes shortly thereafter. Kennedy has earned a total of three wins in the UFC, with the biggest coming over current middleweight champion Michael Bisping at the UFC Ultimate Fighter Nations Finale.
Evans recently spoke to The MMA Hour about a potential fight in New York…
“I couldn’t write anything better myself to be able to hopefully have an opportunity to compete in this card, to be a part of what this card means for the history of mixed martial arts, it’s just, it really means everything to me, and it’s a big opportunity, a big chance for me to get back on track and to make a statement.”
UFC 205 will be taking place on November 12th from Madison Square Garden in New York, New York…no headliners have been announced at this time.
