Ho Ho Lun Discusses His Decision To Leave WWE To Take Care Of His Ill Mother, And Details His Training Regime
Ho Ho Lun!!!!
Prior to his emergence into NXT, Ho Ho Lun founded his own wrestling promotion–the ‘Hong Kong Pro-Wrestling Federation’ which is still up and running to this day. Ho Ho Lun made a splash onto the NXT scene when he was announced as of one of the competitors in the WWE Cruiserweight Classic tournament in 2016. Ho Ho Lun made it to the second round of the tourney where he was defeated by current 205 Live and NXT U.K. star Noam Dar.
Ho Ho Lun would go on to make a number of sporadic appearances on NXT TV and at one point was announced to be a member of the 205 Live roster. In August of 2017 it was revealed that Ho Ho Lun was released from his WWE contract but further details emerged and Lun stated during an interview with WWE.com that he made the choice to depart from WWE and go back to China to take care of his mother who was ill. Unfortunately, Lun’s mother passed away after a fight with breast cancer this past January. During an interview with the ‘South China Morning Post’, Ho Ho stated that his decision to leave NXT would have been tough even if his mother was in good health.
βIt would have been a tough decision if my mum was healthy, but my mum was [ill], that gave me a big motivation to come back,β He said.
Ho Ho Lun has been competing in his home-country of China and has been focused on improving his all aspects of his health. Lun went on to speak about the vigorous training regime that he has made himself accustom to.
“Training is important β besides squats and push-ups, there is specific training for the neck. If I break my arm or leg, it can be put back together again. Break your neck, that is the end of your life.
Neck-specific training includes a bridge exercise which you do without your hands while moving your legs in a circle.” Lun said. “Others include training with a partner who pushes against your neck while you resist.” He continued, “All sports have their risks. In Japan in 2009, Mitsuharu Misawa died in the ring because he did a back suplex, a move in which someone slammed him and he was supposed to land on his back, but landed wrong on his neck and died. Misawa was a true legend. Misawa was 40 years old at the time and had been wrestling for 20 years. He wrestled every day and was [a] producer for the wrestling company NOAH, so all the stress played a part too β lack of training, and lack of sleep from too much traveling.”
Ho Ho Lun was one of many performers who had the opportunity to hone their skills at the WWE Performance Center. WWE recently hosted a tryout at the P.C. that saw two former IMPACT Wrestling Champions partaking in that tryout. For more more information on that, click here.
