Sullivan Barrera To Face Seanie Monaghan On Main Events Facebook Show
Sullivan Barrera’s opponent for the main event of the second Facebook card of Golden Boy and Main Events’ partnership has been revealed.
Barrera will face once-beaten Seanie Monaghan at the Sands Bethlehem Casino and Event Center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on August 18 and will be streamed on Facebook.
The 36-year-old Barrera has not fought since losing to WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol on a March HBO card from Madison Square Garden. The loss snapped Barrera’s four-fight win streak since suffering a unanimous decision loss to former unified light heavyweight champion Andre Ward in 2016. Despite the loss to Bivol, Barrera, who sports a 21-2 pro record, is still ranked in the top 15 in the WBC (No. 14) and WBA (No. 4) rankings at 200 lbs.
Monaghan has not fought since last November when he defeated Evert Bravo on the undercard of Deontay Wilder‘s first-round knockout win over Bermane Stiverne. The win was Monaghan’s first since suffering his lone pro defeat at the hands of undefeated light heavyweight contender Marcus Browne in a title eliminator on a PBC card at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York.
The fight is the second of a five-fight streaming deal between Facebook, Golden Boy Promotions and Main Events. The first of these fights will take place on August 11 in California when Jesus Rojas, now elevated to WBA “regular” featherweight champion, defends his title against former featherweight title challenger Joseph Diaz.
No other fight for the August 18 card from Bethlehem has been announced.
