Report: Bellator Heavyweight World Grand Prix Semi-Finals Set For October
Four fighters are left in the Bellator Heavyweight World Grand Prix, which are light heavyweight champion Ryan Bader, Fedor Emelianenko, Chael Sonnen and Matt Mitrione.
A report from MMA Junkie is stating that Emelianenko vs. Sonnen and Bader vs. Mitrione should be taking place in October.
Although nothing is confirmed at this time, it is possible that the promotion can hold two events in two consecutive days with a semi-fianl bout headlining each card.
MMA Junkie is also reporting that the Fedor versus Sonnen bout could take place in Chicago, although initial reports saying the east coast could’ve played home to that encounter. There is no word at this time as to the potential location for Bader versus Mitrione.
Roy Nelson is the official alternate for the grand prix and it is possible he’ll have to be on weight for both event or even the finals, assuming one of the four competitors gets hurt and is unable to compete.
While the semi-final round is rumored to be happening this October, no word has been given as to when the finals will take place.
The winner of the Bellator MMA Heavyweight World Grand Prix will get crowned the Bellator Heavyweight Title, which was previously held by Vitaly Minakov.
