Kevin Lee Wants To Fight GSP For 165 Pound Title
Kevin Lee has fought for UFC gold before losing to Tony Ferguson in a bout for the vacant UFC Interim Lightweight Title at UFC 216.
The lightweight star believes the lightweight and welterweight divisions are a mess right now, which is why he wants a 165 pound title created and to fight former two division UFC champion Georges St. Pierre for that belt.
“The 155lb and 170lb (divisions) are so messed up right now,” Lee said to The Straits Times. “You’ve got three titles between the two divisions already, so they’ve got to add another weight class. I think me and Georges for the 165lb title makes the most amount of sense. You do Conor [McGregor] and Khabib [Nurmagomedov] in October, you do me and Georges in November, at Madison Square Garden. And maybe you do Tyron [Woodley] and Colby [Covington] to figure out the 170lb division.”
There hasn’t been a new title created by the UFC in over a year, with that last belt being the UFC Women’s Flyweight Championship.
Lee predicts that if a fight does come together with GSP, it would be the toughest bout of his professional MMA career.
”It will be the hardest fight of my career, it’ll be the biggest challenge But, as soon as I get back home from UFC Singapore, I’m going to go back and figure out how to beat the man,” says Lee.
GSP hasn’t competed since defeating Michael Bisping for the UFC Middleweight Title at UFC 217, but is currently out of action since getting diagnosed with ulcerative colitis.
