Bruce Prichard Thinks Dusty Rhodes Rubbed People The Wrong Way
Bruce Prichard thinks Dusty Rhodes ego and arrogance could have “rubbed people the wrong way.”
On a new episode of his podcast, the former WWE manager and producer talked at length about The American Dream Dusty Rhodes. One of the more interesting things he said was about how Dusty carried himself.
“At times it may have rubbed people the wrong way, but you know what, Vince rubs people the wrong way sometimes for the same reasons. You can be cocky and arrogant if you can back it up, and Dream can back it up, Dream was that man you know, he was on top of the mountain and nobody can touch Dusty Rhodes in a lot of respects, so him walking in with a chip on his shoulders, it was warranted,” Prichard said.
Rhodes’ charm was something that came easy to him, according to Prichard. When he tried to act differently, it showed.
“Dream does have natural charisma. He was trying so hard to become the common man, and he was forcing it, so it wasn’t coming out as natural as everything else he did. So, it took him a little while, and once he got comfortable with it, it was Dream, and was easy for him to do,” Prichard said.
Rhodes, real name Virgil Riley Runnels Jr., passed away June 11, 2015. He was diagnosed with stomach cancer. NXT General Manager William Regal created the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament in his honor. The inaugural tournament was won by Finn Balor and Samoa Joe, after defeating Rhyno and Baron Corbin by pinfall in the final at NXT TakeOver: Respect.
