Errol Spence Jr. vs. Carlos Ocampo Live Coverage And Discussion

Welcome to Fightful’s live coverage of the Errol Spence Jr. vs. Carlos Ocampo Showtime boxing card. As the welterweight division continues to gain momentum, so does Spence, who will be making his second IBF welterweight title defense.

Here is the main televised card (9 p.m. ET/Showtime):

  • Errol Spence Jr. defeated Carlos Ocampo by KO, round 1, 3:00 to retain the IBF welterweight title
  • Danny Roman defeated Moises Flores by unanimous decision (116-112, 118-110, 120-108) to retain the WBA super bantamweight title
  • Adrian Granados vs. Javier Fortuna ends in a no decision

MAIN CARD

Danny Roman (c) vs. Moises Flores: WBA super bantamweight title

Round 1: Flores tries to go on the offensive and throws a lot of wild left hooks. Roman competes by landing a steady right jab and following it up with a left uppercut. Flores lands a good left hook. Flores lands a solid counter right hook to Roman.

Round 2: Roman starts off by landing a couple of stiff right hooks upstairs. The champion is now starting to work the body. Flores and Roman exchange a number of jabs halfway through the round. Flores lands a double left hook and Roman fires back two straight uppercuts. Roman lands another counter left uppercut to the body.

Round 3: Flores works the body in the early part of the round. Flores lands another hard body shot, but Roman responds with a left jab. Flores and Roman have another spirited exchange of punches. Roman lands another combination that ends with an uppercut.

Round 4: Roman starts the round off with a couple of right hooks. Roman continues the early assault by moving to Flores’ body. Flores keeps throwing punches, but Roman is defending well. Roman lands another counter left punch. Flores is now starting to land the left jab. Roman ends the round with a big right hand that hits Flores’ jaw.

Round 5: Starting off the fifth round is Roman landing a couple of strong left uppercuts to Flores’ body. Roman lands a couple of well-placed shots to Flores’ ribs. Roman continues to throw more and more punches to the body.

Round 6: Roman and Flores continue to throw punches at each other, but Roman’s punches still contain more power. Roman lands a vicious 1-2 combination to Flores’ body. Roman’s jab at the end of the round seemed to stun Flores for a brief second.

Round 7: Flores starts with a lunging left hand, misses, and then Roman lands a left hand of his own in response. Flores lands a weak jab. Roman lands another uppercut, this time to Flores’ jaw. Flores hits a sweeping right hand. Roman hits a lead right hand followed by a left uppercut. Flores lands an uppercut that splits Roman’s guard.

Round 8: Roman throws a body shot, then moves out of the way to avoid getting hit with a right hand by Flores. Flores throws a long right uppercut. Both men take the fight up close, but it is Roman who lands the better body punches. Roman lands two uppercuts upstairs. Flores manages to land a lead right hand to Roman at the end of the round.

Round 9: Flores lands a right hand to the side Roman’s head. Roman continues to land the body punches which has worked well all fight long. Flores barely lands a sweeping left hook as Roman lands a short left uppercut to Flores’ body.

Round 10: Roman moves around the ring, trying to avoid any dangerous punches from Flores as Flores moves to an orthodox stance. Roman lands another left hand to Flores’ body. Roman moves back, still throwing body punches. Flores looks exhausted at this point.

Round 11: Once again, Flores lunges forward at the start to get the lead punch in, but Roman still settles in nicely in the round. Roman connects with a strong overhand right. Flores throws a combination of short punches to Roman’s body. Roman’s left uppercut hurt Flores, but the champion is unable to finish it right then and there.

Round 12: Roman throws a jab and moves across the ring. Flores is exhausted, but is still able to keep on fighting, throwing punches to Roman. Careful to avoid a surprise knockout, Roman continues to move around the ring, throwing the occasional punch or two.

Official result: Danny Roman defeated Moises Flores by unanimous decision (116-112, 118-110, 120-108) to retain the WBA super bantamweight title

Errol Spence Jr. (c) vs. Carlos Ocampo: IBF welterweight title

Round 1: Spence starts with a few right jabs upstairs. Ocampo leads in with a right hand and then a couple of left jabs. Ocampo throws a combination of punches to Spence’s body. Spence answers back with a combination of his own. Spence lands a quick right jab followed by a left hook. Both men clinch and each fighter lands a couple of body punches. Spence throws a hard left body shot followed by a right body uppercut and Ocampo goes down and is out, wincing in pain. Spence retains the title.
