Sheamus States That He Is Always Looking For The Next Move In His Career, And Reflects On His First WWE Championship Win
“The Celtic Warrior’s” rise to stardom.
“The Celtic Warrior” Sheamus has been with WWE for twelve years now and throughout his time in the company he has put together quite the resume’ for himself winning the World Heavyweight Championship, becoming a 3-time WWE Champion, winning the Royal Rumble match, the ‘King Of The Ring’ tournament, and becoming a multi-time WWE United States Champion.
Sheamus is now a tag team wrestler as he formed a duo with Cesaro and the two men have won the RAW Tag Team Championships four times together. This weekend Cesaro & Sheamus will be heading to Iowa with the SmackDown roster for a live event and to promote the show Sheamus spoke with the ‘Telegraph Herald’. During the discussion Sheamus shared that he does not look back at his accolades much because he always has his eyes on what’s to come in the future.
“Certain things happen in your career that bring you to your next point and then to your next point,” said Sheamus. “My next great moment is not behind me, it’s in front of me. You keep moving forward. I really don’t think about it to be honest,” he said. “I’m always looking for the next challenge or looking for the next thing. Maybe when I’m retired in 30 years I can look back, but I’m looking for the next thing to achieve now. I still have a long way to go in this career.”
Sheamus has created a number of moments for himself throughout his career but none bigger than when he won the WWE Championship for the first time at the ‘TLC’ PPV in 2009 by defeating John Cena.
“It was crazy,” Sheamus said. “It was a little bit of a blur. I didn’t know I was going to win the title until that day. I did a segment with Mark Cuban where I held the title in my hands and I thought, ‘This is awesome, this is crazy.’ Then a week or two later they were putting my name on the title and it was nuts. It’s one of those things that feels like a fantasy come true. It was a great way to kick off my career in WWE.”
Before Sheamus formed his tag team with Cesaro the two men battled each other in a best-of-seven series which presented some hard-hitting bouts. They have since put their skills together and dubbed themselves “The Bar” and Sheamus, as he has done over numerous platforms, went on to praise his tag partner Cesaro stating that “The Swiss Superman” should be world champion.
“It was new waters as I’d never been in a tag team before,” Sheamus said. “It was an opportunity to do something different and prove to the fans what we could do. I feel like we did give the tag division on RAW a huge boost. We’ve had some epic feuds, we’re just always ready to go and no matter what happens.” He continued, “Cesaro is the best in the world. He’s the real G-O-A-T and one day he will be world champion.”
Sheamus is one WWE Intercontinental Championship win away from becoming a Grand Slam Champion in the company. For night now though Sheamus has his sights set on the SmackDown Live Tag Team Titles which he stated during the interview.
