Valentina Shevchenko Wants Nicco Montano To Fight, Says She Isn’t Conor McGregor

UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion Nicco Montano hasn’t fought since winning the gold at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale.

Top contender Valentina Shevchenko is tired of waiting for Montano to defend the strap and wants to remind the champion that she isn’t Conor McGregor, who didn’t defend the UFC Lightweight Title for almost two years after winning it at UFC 205.

“We’ll see what Nicco will do,” she said to MMA Junkie. “If she’s thinking she’s Conor McGregor, she’s not.”

Montano is the only female champion on the entire UFC roster who hasn’t defended her title at least once since winning it.

The women’s flyweight champion has stated that injuries have kept her from defending the gold, but Shevchenko says reality is different from what Montano wants people to believe.

“I just don’t like when people do something wrong, and when they say something wrong,” she said. “I just don’t like it. I don’t take it too personal, because to win the fight I have to be cool. It doesn’t matter to me what they say, because I have so much experience. Opponents they talk so many different words about me, and I just know how to manage it. But when I write a (social media) post, I just do it if a person is wrong. If she’s doing something wrong, I just say, ‘Hey, stop. You’re doing it wrong.’ Or if you’re thinking you’re smarter than everyone, or you think people are fools, no, they’re not. They exactly understand what’s happening now.”

Shevchenko does sit at #1 in the UFC Women’s Flyweight Division rankings, which theoretically means she gets the next shot at the champion.
