Fight-size Boxing Update: Ring Magazine Gets A New Title Belt, “GGG” Title Will Not Be Defended Against Kell Brook, Canelo-Smith News
Here is your fight-size boxing update for September 4:
– Robson Conceicao, who became the first Brazilian boxer in history to win an Olympic gold medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics last month, has signed a five-year professional contract with Top Rank.
– Gennady Golovkin‘s WBA middleweight title will not be defended in his fight against Kell Brook on September 10. The organization declined to sanction the fight to have its title on the line due to Brook having never fought at 160 pounds. Golovkin’s WBC and IBF world titles will still be defended on September 10.
– The Ring Magazine announced on social media that they have received a new title belt for its light welterweight champion, Terrence Crawford. Crawford, who is also the WBC and WBO light welterweight champion, won the Ring Magazine title when he defeated Viktor Postol back in July.
– The Canelo Alvarez-Liam Smith fight on September 17 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, will not have a 24/7 series on HBO, but it will still get some special treatment when Road To Canelo/Smith debuts on the network on September 10. The show will be narrated by Liev Schreiber and will visit Alvarez and Smith at their training camps as they prepare for their junior middleweight world title fight.
– According to ESPN’s Dan Rafael, the first 36 hours of ticket sales for the light-heavyweight title fight between Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward have been very positive, selling about 9,500 of the 17,500 tickets that are available. The two will clash in Las Vegas on November 19.
