Robert Whittaker Suffered A Broken Thumb At UFC 225
UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker picked up a split decision victory over Yoel Romero in the main event of UFC 225.
Although the bout was a non-title affair due to Romero missing weight, it didn’t stop Whittaker from going all out and as a result, a hand injury was suffered by the champion.
Whittaker’s fight team posted the following on Instagram:
Since the broken thumb occurred early in the first round of the five round affair, it means that Whittaker went twenty-plus minutes in the Octagon with Romero while being injured.
The middleweight champion seems to be cursed when fighting Romero, as he suffered a knee injury against the Cuban competitor in their first encounter at UFC 213. Interestingly enough, it was in the first round of their bout at UFC 213 that Whittaker suffered the knee injury, but Whittaker still picked up decision wins in both of those encounters.
There is no word at this time as to when Whittaker could be back in action, but more should be known as the champion’s injury heals up.
