Danny Roman vs. Moises Flores For WBA Super Bantamweight Title Set For June 16
Danny Roman's next super bantamweight world title defense will finally get him on a big boxing card in the United States.
Roman will defend his WBA super bantamweight title against Moises Flores on the June 16 Showtime Championship Boxing card taking place at The Star in Frisco, Texas. The card will be headlined by the IBF welterweight title fight between Errol Spence Jr. and Carlos Ocampo.
Flores, who previously held the IBO title and is the interim WBA title, would be fighting for the first time in 364 days, the longest layoff of Flores' career. Flores' last fight took place on the pay-per-view card of Andre Ward vs. Sergey Kovalev 2 last June when he face then-WBA champion Guillermo Rigondeaux. The fight ended in a no contest after Rigondeaux hit him after the end of the first round.
The 28-year-old Roman has already fought once in 2018 when he retained his title against Ryo Matsumoto after winning the WBA "regular" super bantamweight title last September. Roman was elevated to full WBA champion after Rigondeaux was stripped of the organization's "super" belt late last year. Both of Roman's two world title fights took place in Japan after not being able to secure a deal to have a title fight televised in the United States. This will be Roman's first fight stateside after beating Adam Lopez on a ShoBox: The Next Generation card in January 2017.
The full card has not been announced, but aside from the two title fights, there is a welterweight fight between former world champions Devon Alexander and Andre Berto scheduled to take place on the card.
