Legendary Trainer Brendan Ingle Passes Away, Boxing World Reacts
Brendan Ingle, one of the most celebrated boxing trainers in British boxing, passed away due to a brain haemorrhage on May 25. He was 77 years old.
Ingle has trained a number of top boxers, including Naseem Hamed, Kell Brook, Johnny Nelson, Herol Graham and many more. Ingle’s fighters were often successful and won many accolades, including British, European and world boxing titles. Graham told Boxing News Ingle was a trainer who gave his fighters confidence yet instilled the necessary discipline to be a successful boxer.
"Brendan was a good teacher. He gives you confidence and self-belief. He makes you believe you can do anything you want, that you’re able to win a fight without the opponent touching you. I was in his household for two-three years, so I had that influence regularly. He taught me loads. It’s a discipline he instilled. If there’s none at home or in the gym, you get unruly children and unruly boxers," Ingle said.
The boxing world mourned Ingle’s passing and many took to social media to talk about Ingle.
His training gym continues to attract boxers to this day and is currently being run by his sons John and Dominic.
He is survived by his wife, Alma (nee Chaloner), whom he married in 1961, their five children, Brendan, Bridget, Dominic, John and Tara, and 14 grandchildren, and by four brothers and three sisters.
