Pete Dunne’s WWE UK Championship Reign Hits One Year Mark

Pete Dunne has hit a major milestone as WWE's United Kingdom Champion, as he's reached the one-year mark in his reign.

Only the second WWE UK Champion ever, Dunne defeated Tyler Bate at last May's WWE Takeover: Chicago to capture the title. Dunne actually made it to the finals of the tournament that originally decided the first champion back in January 2017, where Bate emerged victorious.

Dunne appears on any number of shows while champion, including NXT, Monday Night Raw, 205 Live among others. Unique to a WWE title, Dunne has also defended the title on numerous occasions outside of WWE. Most recently, Dunne defended against Markus Burke at UCW in Canada in late April. Dunne also had a series of defenses in Progress against Jack Gallagher and Joseph Conners between December and January, and ICW in Scotland back in July where he beat BT Gunn, Trent Seven and Wolfgang.

The title will be defended in the coming weeks when Dunne faces Kyle O'Reilly in a match taped on May 10.

The length of Dunne's reign has been somewhat overshadowed by Brock Lesnar, who has served as WWE Universal Champion for over 400 days while on WWE Raw. Look for Dunne to be more active as WWE looks to increase their presence in the UK.
