Megan Anderson Shocked Holly Holm is Her First UFC Opponent

Invicta FC Featherweight Champion Megan Anderson is facing former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Holly Holm next month at UFC 225.

The featherweight contender was shocked and surprised that the former women’s bantamweight champion is who she’ll make a UFC debut against.

“I was actually really surprised,” she said on The MMA Hour. “It wasn’t something that I had actually [considered]. … I didn’t really have Holly in mind, so it definitely did come as a shock. I think this is a perfect opportunity to showcase my skills against someone that’s the caliber that Holly is. She’s held world titles in MMA and boxing and she’s done a lot for this sport. I’m excited.”

Anderson was originally rumored to be making her UFC debut against UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion Cyborg at UFC 214, but she withdrew from the bout due to personal reasons.

Holm is ranked #3 in the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Division rankings and Anderson is wondering just how the top ranked fighter will compete against her.

“In any fight, someone always brings forward some kind of danger factor and it’s just how you deal with that. Holly, she uses a lot of movement. She doesn’t necessarily engage a lot and I feel that’s what’s not tended to go her way in the split decisions. … It will be interesting to see how she approaches me, with me being the bigger and longer fighter than she is. She hasn’t necessarily fought someone like me before,” says Anderson.

UFC 225 takes place on Saturday, June 9 from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois with Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
