Carlos Ocampo: I’m Ready To Knock Out Errol Spence Jr.
Speaking on his upcoming first world title fight, Carlos Ocampo predicts a knockout a victory over the hometown favorite Errol Spence Jr.
At the opening press conference for his June 16 IBF welterweight title fight against Spence Jr., Ocampo said he understands he is a heavy underdog against Spence and looks forward to potentially knocking him out.
"I have been the underdog before and I'm prepared to once again overcome that. I'm not worried about what anybody else thinks of me or this fight. He can talk about knocking me out all he wants but I'm here too and I'm ready to knock him out on June 16," Ocampo said.
This will be Ocampo's first fight in the United States and it just so happens that it takes place at the Dallas Cowboys' training facility in Spence's hometown. Spence has said fighting in front of his hometown fans on a world title stage has been a dream of his and Ocampo sees the fact that he's a heavy underdog against Spence as motivation to hand the champion his first professional loss.
"I know that this is a great opportunity to be fighting here in Spence's hometown. That's a plus for me and it motivates me. I'm going to be ready to fight for 12 rounds. It's supposed to be tough with the crowd against me and I know I'm the underdog, but my mind is only on the fight. I'm just fighting one man, not a whole crowd. I know that I have what it takes," Ocampo said.
Spence vs. Ocampo will headline a Showtime Championship Boxing card with the IBF title on the line and the fight will also feature a welterweight matchup between former world champions Devon Alexander and Andre Berto.
