Wanheng Menayothin Ties Floyd Mayweather’s 50-0 Record With KO Win In Thailand

Look out Floyd Mayweather Jr., there's a new 50-0 boxer in town.

Wanheng Menayothin, the WBC's longtime minimumweight world champion, became the latest in history to reach a 50-0 mark in their career, joining the likes of Mayweather and Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. Only Mayweather retired with a perfect record out of the two.

Menayothin defeated Leroy Estrada by fifth-round knockout to retain his title in his native country of Thailand. The fight was about as one-sided as it can get in favor of the Thai champion, with Menayothin knocking down Estrada a total of five times throughout the contest. The start of the end began in the third round when Menayothin knocked down Estrada twice and almost stopped him. Menayothin followed it up with two more knockdowns in the fourth round and then finally ended the fight with the decisive knockout in the fifth round.

The loss snapped Estrada's four-fight win streak since his last loss, a 2014 unanimous decision defeat by former WBC Silver and FECARBOX champion Carlos Ortega.

Menayothin started his pro boxing career in 2007, quickly ascending the ranks in the sport's lightest weight class. Menayothin won the WBC Youth title in just his third fight. Menayothin successfully defended his title eight times before later winning the WBC International title. Menayothin won the world title in 2014 and has defended the title a total of nine times.

With Mayweather likely going to remain retired at 50-0, Menayothin has a chance to eclipse 50-0 in his next fight and likely finish with the greatest perfect boxing record of all time. As for who could become the next boxer to achieve a 50-0 record, 24-year-old Petch Sor Chitpattana, who is ordered to fight for the vacant WBC bantamweight title, stands at 46-0.
