Frank Warren On Why Tyson Fury Has Come Back To Boxing

Promoter Frank Warren is excited to see Tyson Fury fight for the first time since 2015 and talks about the real reason Fury wants to box once more.

In an interview with ESPN, Warren said Fury has looked well in sparring and that he is in the proper mindset to make an impactful return to the ring.

“I mean, he looks well, he’s in a good frame of mind. I’ve seen some of the sparring. He’s looking really good, he’s gotten rid of the weight, but more importantly, mentally he’s there. Him being mentally on the money is a big plus. He’s the lineal champion. He never lost the belts in the ring. Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder are very fun in the ring, but until they beat him, they can’t be consider the true world champion,” Warren said.

Speaking on the reason why Fury has decided to come out of retirement, Warren said that it is not the prospect of winning world titles but more so proving he is the true world heavyweight champion.

“I think it’s the fact that he’s a fighting man and that he wants to fight. It’s not so much the belts because he’s won all the belts and he got more belts than anybody in British boxing. I think for him it’s fighting these guys who are now the world champions, but they’re not really world champions because they didn’t beat him,” Warren said

Fury previously held the WBA, WBO, IBF, The Ring and Lineal world heavyweight titles when he defeated Wladimir Klitschko in 2015. Since then, Fury has not fought after failing drug tests and then getting suspended. Fury briefly retired but announced last year he would fight again, battling to get his boxing license back from the British Boxing Board of Control. Fury is scheduled to make his two-and-a-half year return on June 9 at a boxing card at the Manchester Arena.
