Bruce Prichard Discusses His Current Role In MLW, Recalls The Undertaker’s Debut, Talks ‘RAW 25’, And More

The wrestling swiss-army knife speaks on a plethora of topics.

Prior this year's WrestleMania in New Orleans, Brian Fritz of Sporting News spoke with former manager and WWE creative writer Bruce Prichard. Prichard, along with his host Conrad Thompson present the award-winning 'Something To Wrestle With' podcast which has been picked up by the WWE and is now in the beginning stages of a thirteen week season on the WWE Network.

Although Prichard is no longer a part of the WWE creative team, he shared that the process of creating and being a booker remain in his thought process while watching pro wrestling.

“You never turn it off,” explained Prichard. “That's one frustrating thing my family will always tell you. I'm always thinking of the next angle. I'm always thinking about 'What if this happened?' I'm always thinking in some kind of weird mode. I watch the show and then I think what I would do. I try not to because I like to just get lost in a story and be surprised.”

Prichard then went on to speak about the former three-time World Heavyweight Champion and WWE legend The Undertaker. This interview was prior to WrestleMania in which "The Deadman" did compete at, but Prichard stated that he believed The Undertaker was good to go and that the crowd will eat it up whenever Undertaker shows up. At the 1990 'Survivor Series' PPV Prichard introduced the wrestling world to this 7 foot menacing entity that is now regarded as one of the greatest WWE superstars of all time. The man formerly known as 'Brother Love' reflected on the moment that the crowd inside of the Hartford Civic Center on November 22nd in 1990 got a glance at "The Deadman".

“The crowd didn't boo right away but they reacted,” remembered Prichard about The Undertaker’s debut. “There was an air in the room that people were like 'Oh my God, this is special. Look at that guy'. He looked different, he walked different. How he worked his matches back then was different and that's enough, especially in those days, that people took notice. He's just a unique talent. He's a unique man. He got it right from the beginning and he embraced that character and became the character.”

Prichard returned to WWE programming as 'Brother Love' in January for the 'RAW 25' special. Prichard stated that it was great going back and seeing some of his old colleagues and wrestlers who he played a role in molding into the superstars that they have become today.

“Just going back and seeing everybody was nice,” said Prichard. “It was a little bit like going home after a long, long absence. It was cool to see everybody. It was incredible to walk around every corner and see a new reality show taking place. I got to spend a little time with John Cena. It had been a long time, it was great to see him. Brock Lesnar about knocked me out by saying hello, he doesn't know his own strength. It was terrific seeing Vince and Stephanie. It was a long day but it was a fun day.”

Among his many other duties, Prichard is a senior producer for Major League Wrestling which recently made its television debut on BeIN Sports this past Friday. With 32-years of experience in his back pocket Bruce Prichard shared that some of the talent in MLW caught his attention which lead to him agreeing to bring his experience and knowledge to the company.

“Some of the talent had me intrigued,” explained Prichard. “I went down and helped them produce some of their backstage stuff and some of the matches. After the fact, I told him give me this guy, give me that guy. Let me get in their head and see if there's something there because they've got some impressive talent. To me, that's fun. I love working with young talent that wants to learn.”

Prichard also weighed in on Roman Reigns being "the guy" in WWE, along with more. To read the remainder of the interview with Bruce Prichard, click here.
