Jermall Charlo Comments On Canelo Alvarez’s Suspension
Canelo Alvarez‘s recent six-month suspension has the boxing world talking and fellow middleweight contender Jermall Charlo commented on the matter.
During a media scrum where Fightful took part in, Charlo said Alvarez’s suspension for testing positive twice for two traces of clenbuterol showed that he was unprofessional and that cheaters are not winners.
“I heard about it and it’s crazy. When Canelo got suspended, it shows a lot of unprofessionalism. There’s nothing that I can control and I’m pretty sure he didn’t mean to get caught up, but when you get caught cheating, you know, a cheater is never a winner,” Charlo said.
Although Charlo said he was happy that Gennady Golovkin’s camp spoke out against Alvarez’s positive test and subsequent excuse that the positive tests was a result of Alvarez eating contaminated meat, Charlo said he wishes the best for Alvarez. Charlo said he’s busy thinking of his upcoming fight against Hugo Centeno Jr. for the interim WBC middleweight title on April 21 at the Barclays Center. A win over Centeno Jr. would put him in line to face Golovkin for his unified middleweight titles later this year or in 2019.
“I’m glad the GGG camp spoke out on it, Nevada State Athletic Commission took care of their business and everything got handled. We’ll see him later in the year and he had knee surgery so I mean it’s a lot of sh*t going on with Canelo that not a lot of people are not aware of. I wish him the best, I wish everybody the best, I wish GGG the best against Vanes. But that fight got nothing to do with me, I’m not looking past Centeno and my mind is on Centeno,” Charlo said.
Charlo’s fight against Centeno Jr. will be televised on Showtime as part of a big tripleheader of fights. Fightful will have live coverage of the event.
