BJ Penn Would Return For UFC Event In Hawaii

Former UFC Lightweight & Welterweight Champion BJ Penn hasn’t picked up a victory in almost eight years, with his last win coming over former UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Hughes at UFC 123.

Even though he is on quite the losing streak, Penn wants to fight again if the UFC holds an event in his native Hawaii.

“I wouldn’t go around talking to the UFC and asking them to get me a fight somewhere, but if something happened and the UFC came to Hawaii,” Penn told KHON“I’m still young enough to do it. I don’t see how I can turn that particular fight down.”

Penn has fought a few times in Hawaii, against Takanori Gomi and Rodrigo Gracie for the Rumble On The Rock promotion, but never under the UFC banner.

The former two division champion just wants to see the UFC come to Hawaii, even if he doesn’t compete on the card.

“That would be unbelievable. You see all kinds of rumors and stuff and the last time I was in Vegas I saw the MMA commission from Hawaii and someone representing Aloha Stadium up there so it’s interesting. I would love to see something happen. It would mean everything. Like I said though, I’m not even fighting so maybe I just sit back and watch," says Penn.

There are UFC events announced through the first week of July and UFC 226, but nothing is scheduled for the state of Hawaii at this time.
